I have tried to use twitter and just dont get it… I update my Facebook status pretty much constantly, yet I never remember to update Twitter. I dont really follow anyone and dont understand what that means… Maybe I am just old and uncool, but does anyone have a Dummies Guide to Twitter blog post or somesuch.
I keep hearing it is the next big thing and dont see it, which tells me I am not using it correctly.
twitter.com/diorex if you want to hear the inconsistent bitching and moaning I do on twitter… Who knows maybe someone will throw up a good link on ways to use it and I will make it worth your while.

Think of twitter as instant messenger with your contact list being pretty much everyone who is on twitter. You can message people directly by putting ‘@’ in front of their nick like “@diorex hey what’s new.” You can also have twitter message you updates directly to your cell phone (SMS) and you can post from your cell phone as well. ie. instant status updates without needing to login through a computer.

Maybe you’re ahead of the curve. Aaron Wall had a pretty good rant post about why why those w/ their own properties may not want to be twittering. I’ve also seen people use tweetdeck to integrate their tweets on their facebook - haven’t done it yet since I’m of the “not getting twitter” club too.

Depends on your online promotional strategies. I joined after a friend told me it was an easy way to rally social media votes. I joined, turns out he was right, and I’m enjoying it now. Another approach is the social-media-as-mass-media approach: “I want 10,000s of followers so that I can broadcast messages far and wide, launching content viral etc.”
Depends on your networking needs. I’ve found it enables me to converse with folks who aren’t in my social circle much more easily (follow them and @reply them) and this helps build relationships. I don’t need to explain the value of that to you.
Depends on your informational needs. I don’t have 125 people backing me (:P lol) so when I needed to add borders to images, I went on and friends explained how to write the css. Following the right people can teach you new ideas, keep you abreast of industry news, entertain you, bore you, spam you… as varied as the population using it.
Some further reading: search ‘ site:sphinn.com Twitter ‘ or ’site:sphinn.com reasons twitter ‘ and similar variations (why, how to, tips, etc)

I agree that Twitter has not arrived yet. But it does have a lot of potential.
It’s like a “hive mind” so the more users it has, the more beneficial it becomes. Right now it doesn’t seem to have broken into the mainstream.
But imagine this, you tweet “Where’s the best mexican restaurant in ” and you get 5 tweets back suggesting different restaurants. That’d be pretty powerful right? Too bad it’s not there yet. Not enough users even though they have like 7 mil. They need to get to 100 mil or something.

@ daniel - I think Twitter has fully arrived.
It’s just that right now the buzz is bigger than most people’s implementation (in the US, or Western nations) of it will be. Some people will continue to dig deeper into it’s potential for their ability to connect.
Most people will not have that extra energy to invest into that marketing medium because they have 100 other equally valuable marketing mediums in terms of ROI that they haven’t mastered yet.

You can link your Twitter account with your Facebook through Twitter’s Facebook app. This way you can do all of your updates on Twitter and have them automatically update your Facebook status.
