This video is amusing and intended to make fun of Americans, but as marketers we can also take a lesson from this. Just about everyone of these people is on the internet, they search Google and they buy products you are selling.

But you make a good point. A lot of people make the mistake of thinking that their customers are far smarter than they actually are when what they should be doing is picturing Homer Simpson and trying to market to him.

Excellent point Diorex. When I first started out selling stuff online, WAY back when I was 17 I actually couldn’t believe people were buying what I was selling. There were times I’d look at some of my sites and say…. “WOW, I would certainly not buy from me”.
landing pages written to the lowest common denominator are not all good though, you don’t want to exclude or insult the intelligence of the “Not so dumb” ones.

That would explain a lot. It’s quite worrying to think the level of awareness is so low. They say we are living in an enlightened age compared to our grandparents time.
